Objective
Lisner Auditorium’s existing visual identity no longer reflected its role as a prominent cultural and performance venue within George Washington University. To address this, the objective of this project was to redesign the auditorium’s logo to modernize its visual presence while preserving its historical and institutional significance. Through research into the venue’s architecture, legacy, and audience, the redesign aimed to create a flexible, contemporary mark that could better represent Lisner Auditorium across digital and physical platforms and resonate with both long-standing patrons and new audiences.
Design Process
At the outset of the project, I was provided with the existing Lisner Auditorium logo along with George Washington University’s established brand colors to ensure alignment with institutional guidelines. To inform the redesign, I conducted in-depth research into the history of Lisner Auditorium and its namesake, Abram Lisner, examining the venue’s cultural significance and architectural context. This research revealed that the auditorium’s original branding and design language were rooted in the Art Deco era, which became a key influence in shaping the visual direction of the new logo. By drawing from these historical references, the redesign sought to reinterpret Art Deco characteristics through a contemporary lens, creating a logo that honors Lisner Auditorium’s legacy while remaining relevant in a modern context.
